Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America: The "Only Way" to see the entire state of Hawai'i in just seven days

Pride of America is the only cruise ship sailing seven-day cruises, roundtrip Honolulu

You want to see Hawai'i, but to see everything that its four major islands have to offer is a significant challenge. You could spend a fortune flying to each island, renting cars and checking into hotels, but why not just check into one "hotel" and let it take you to all four islands while you sleep at night? It seems too good to be true, right, but that is exactly what you get when you cruise Hawai'i with Norwegian Cruise Line.

Pride of America: The "Only Way" to See Hawai'i

Consider all of the beautiful things to see in the entire state of Hawai'i;

  • The beautiful "Waimea Canyon - Grand Canyon of the tropics," and the Fern Grotto on Kaua'i

  • Whale watching, the Pipiwai Trail with the Waimoku Falls above the seven sacred pools on Maui

  • Diamondhead Mountain, Waikiki Beach and the Pearl Harbor Memorial in Honolulu, as well as the giant waves on the infamous "North Shore" on Oahu.

  • The Kona coffee plantations as well as the active Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park on the island of Hawai'i.

  • Opportunity to attend an authentic Lu'au - Norwegian's own Lu'au Kalamaku in Maui

If you choose a land-based resort you only get to pick one of the above. The Hawai'i ferry system between islands was discontinued years ago. Today the only option is to fly - expensive and time-consuming. Once you land on each island you also need to find ground transportation and a hotel.

    Norwegian's Pride of America

Pride of America sails seven-day Hawai'i cruises roundtrip from Honolulu. Why not arrive a few days early to see everything Oahu can offer?

The ship sails out of Honolulu every Saturday night. Sunday morning it docks in Maui at 8:00 a.m. and stays overnight to sail at 6:00 p.m. Monday night. Tuesday morning the ship reaches Hilo (Hawai'i) at 8:00 a.m. The most adventurous go to Volcano National Park and hike over the cooled moonscape of black crystalline lava near to the point where the liquid golden lava steams into the sea. This is not for the faint of heart or less than physically fit. As you near the trail's end the temperature rises dramatically and the oxygen in the air is replaced with sulfur. The jagged terrain of solid rock means there is no marked trail, so this hike should only be taken with a Norwegian Cruise Line qualified tour guide.

Thursday you arrive in Kauai, the "Garden Isle" where you can visit the famous "Fern Grotto" or Waimea Canyon, known as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." You sail from Kauai at 2:00 p.m., Friday, so you can see the most dramatic sunset of your life - along the striking red cliffs of the islands' Na Pali coastline. At sunset these red sandstone cliffs, rising as high as 4000 feet, glow as if they are on fire, and the only way to see this view is from the sea.

    Hawai'i - Pride of America

Pride of America is the only mainstream cruise ship (80,000-tons) in the world with an all-American crew. The ship has an "American" theme to its decor, which is fitting for its name, but it is a Freestyle Cruising® ship with 12 restaurants on board, some specialty, including the line's signature steakhouse, sushi, Teppanyaki and more, in addition to delicious complimentary options. The nighttime shows include true Hawai'ian folkloric artists - one of the advantages to keeping the ship in port overnight.

Prices for the 7-day cruise start at about $1,249 per person for an inside cabin, and about $1,849 for a balcony.

The rates are above average, but the U.S.-registered Pride of America is only cruise ship allowed to sail a seven-day roundtrip cruise from Honolulu solely to the islands of Hawai'i.

The experience of cruising with an all-American staff is admittedly different than the average cruise. Expect the crewmembers to be more friendly and talkative because many of them are there for the same reason as you - to see Hawai'i.

So keep this in mind - I recommend this cruise highly as the best way to see Hawai'i. You are in port every single day, staying overnight on Maui and Kauai and with two days in different ports on the Big Island. But if all you are looking for is a "sit by the pool to drink pina coladas" type of cruise then you can go to Mexico or the Caribbean for less. But for a fantastic, destination-based adventure, seeing Hawai'i on Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America is something you will never regret.

    The Law of the Land

Hawai'i is a chain of tropical islands that together make up our 50th American state. As a part of the United States, the islands of Hawai'i are subject to two U.S. Maritime laws; the Passenger Vessel Services Act (1886) and the Jones Act (1916) that together mandate that only ships "flagged" by the United States and employing an all-American crew can transport passengers solely between two U.S. ports of call. Confusing, right?

Let's make it simple. If you want to fly to Honolulu to cruise just among the Hawai'ian Islands there is only one choice; Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America. It is the only ship licensed and crewed in full compliance with U.S. Maritime laws that allow it to sail solely within the state of Hawai'i.
